Huge Inventory Sale- Part 6: Octopus and Jellyfish
Octopus and Jellyfish!
I think this has been the most asked about sale. "Carly, when are you doing Octopus?"
Back in 2013 my brother in law had one in a tank and I got to observe him up close. This was before octopus were popular and widely-loved like they are today... but 'll tell you I was in love. We watched him open a glass bottle that held shrimp (which was amazing in and of itself), but then he tried to peel the label off the bottle. When it ripped half way, he threw it down and flew to the other side of the tank to sulk in all dark colors and patterns. A perfectionist Octopus? Clearly Alejandro was intelligent. He was later released, but he made such a big impression on me and my work. One of the first nautical chart paintings I ever made was of him.
This last fun fact is the reason I painted Octopus above the crib for my own children. Did you know that they stay with their eggs until they hatch? They don't even eat unless prey gets close enough to the nest. Sometimes they wither away and die protecting their babies. What a sacrificial love!
Thanks so much for following along with me these last few weeks as I unloaded my inventory and shared some of my favorite facts about marine life. I so appreciate your patronage and support. I hope you were able to get some holiday shopping done... If not, all of the inventory will be replenished after this weekend. If there are any others you've always wanted but they were out of edition, you'll be able to get them now in this open edition with a digital signature. (If something is missing on the site, please feel free to email me about it).
