We went to Tavernier in the Florida Keys, and rented a beautiful house on the water that accommodated 8 adults, 7 kids (6 and under), and 2 boats... Needless to say, we had the time of our lives... Besides being able to fish or lobster everyday, being able to eat it all in the most delicious ways possible was such a treat!
Hi, everyone! If you don't already know me, I'm Carly, a marine life artist, wife, and mom of two, traveling the state of Florida to share my work in Art Festivals and Exhibitions (learn more in my bio). I figured after a few years of exploring this gorgeous state, it's time to start sharing some of our favorite travel destinations and tips for things to do. With two active boys, we are always looking for fun!
I am so proud to be featured in 154 units at the Pelican Grand Beach Resortin Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The artwork was chosen to help create a tropical modern meets old Florida vibes. It even includes a retro, sea foam colored mini fridge for their guests' enjoyment and convenience.
It was a total pleasure working on this very special commission. Not only is it an awesome story, but it also happens that the person who requested this piece is a very talented photographer, Presley Wright. Together, we were able to come up with the perfect way to commemorate this journey in time for Father's Day.
First, I used the projector to blow up Florida on the wall, and the students helped me place paper all over Florida and the surrounding water. We traced Florida and numbered all the papers. Then, students drew the numbers out of a hat to decide which one they would research- it was no surprise that most of the class wanted to research Palm Beach County because they live here, so we had to make it more fair. They researched in the computer lab, at home, and in libraries near by, with the goal of finding or creating symbols that could represent their area.
